Our recycled fabrics

The sports industry has a great capacity to give plastics a second life. Take the case of a metre of recycled polyamide fabric. It can reuse up to 135g of fishing line. And with this same metre of fabric, we can design a basic sports T-shirt. So the use of recycled fabrics offers real benefits for consumers and the planet alike. Here's how it works.

Advantages of recycled fabrics

At first glance, the main advantage of recycled fabrics lies in the fact that they reduce the amount of plastic left behind in our ecosystem. According to one study, nearly 8 million tonnes of plastic pollute the oceans every year. With recycled polyester fabrics, we're helping to reduce this figure by giving single-use plastics a more sustainable second life. But that's not the only advantage of recycled fabrics.

What's more, because recycled fabrics are made from non-virgin materials, their manufacture requires only a small amount of energy resources:

  • Water consumption is then reduced by 20 %
  • Energy consumption down by 50 %
  • CO2 emissions reduced by 60 %

Finally, recycled polyester helps to considerably reduce the need for oil and natural gas, which are necessary for the production of plastic.

Why recycled polyester fabrics?

Recycled polyester or rPET fabrics are so popular in the sporting world because of the many qualities they offer.

These include high elasticity and the ability to wick away perspiration quickly. They are also more resistant than natural fabrics, making them much more durable. Finally, not only can these fabrics be recycled, but they can also be easily recycled once they have reached the end of their life.

Of course, like all recycled fabrics, rPETs help to reduce the amount of plastic waste accumulating in open dumps, forests and oceans. Similarly, their design requires far fewer resources for the same quality as virgin polyester.

Types of Subli Sport recycled fabrics

Synthetic fabrics are the most common in sport. Let's take a look at recycled polyamide and polyester fabrics, classified according to their origin:

  • Fabrics from recycled textiles (after use) : clothing or textile products transformed into yarn that can be used to weave new fabrics.
  • Fabrics from industrial waste (before use) : fabric scraps, defective fabrics or fabrics wasted by the textile industry are given a new lease of life.

If we focus solely on recycled polyester, it can also come from waste from the sea. This includes plastics, usually bottles, recovered from the sea by fishermen or specialist companies.

Recycled polyamide often comes from old fishing nets. These are either recovered from the sea or set aside by fishermen.

The Subli Sport vision

It goes without saying that the textile industry is one of the most polluting and damaging sectors for the planet. At Subli Sport, we strive to reduce our environmental footprint by adopting eco-responsible manufacturing, production and logistics practices.

With this in mind, 90 % of our fabrics are recycled from plastic waste. Designed exclusively in Europe, our fabrics are a guarantee of excellence, quality and above all fair working conditions. As for the production and sublimation printing, this is mainly carried out in Europe. Finally, all our products are Oeko Tex certified, a standard guaranteeing the absence of substances harmful to the skin and the environment.

Our fabrics are designed to respect your well-being and that of the planet, without compromising on quality.
